Rustic luxury in an idyllic location
Pakasangano Lodge is located on the banks of the Zambezi near the confluence with the Kafue River.
We have created an eco-sensitive camp in an area that blends into a natural bush environment amongst the native fauna.
The lodge is located in the game management area of the Lower Zambezi Valley, with an abundance of wildlife to be sighted all year round including water buck, impala, elephant, buffalo, hippo and crocodile.
Further down the river, within the Lower Zambezi National Park, lion and hyena are regularly sighted. Leopard and wild dog are not uncommon.
The Lower Zambezi National Park is accessible all year round by boat or canoe from Pakasangano Lodge.
Thatched Chalets
Our lodge area has 7 en suite chalets, with wooden decks. The thatch roofs keep them cool. Some have a view of the Zambezi and some have a tranquil, rustic views of the surrounding vegetation. All have tea and coffee facilities, fans and air-conditioning.
A chalet can accommodate 3 single beds comfortably or 4 at a squeeze.
The en-suite bathrooms offer hot showers.
Accommodation includes
all meals.
Camping
We have a beautiful shady camping ground for our budget traveler. Tents are pitched on manicured lawns in a relaxing cool environment. Ablutions are clean and tidy with hot water.
Our staff light your camp fires in the evening should you require. Fire wood as well as charcoal are available and meals can be ordered from the lodge restaurant.
The campsite is situated away from the main lodge area.
Camping visitors can order meals from the Lodge Kitchen.
The Lodge Restaurant
All meals are served in the thatched restaurant, with views over the Zambezi. Dinner is set out around under the African stars. Selected wines and local beers are also available.
We source our food fresh, from local suppliers and we cater for all dietary reuirements upon request.
Meals are a delightful experience at the lodge, overlooking the great Zambezi.
Activities
Fishing
Tiger Fishing at Pakasangano lodge is fantastic! The ideal Tiger fishing period is from September to April, but hooking a tiger and any other species during the winter months is not impossible.
Fish tend to feed more during the summer months rather than the winter months. These are times when the annual fishing competition is held and you are welcome to have a go. Due to the ever conscious implications on the environment of the Zambezi River, fishing for Tiger Fish and Vundu is strictly catch and release.
Canoe Safaris
The canoeing from Pakasangano Lodge is unbeatable and if you truly want to experience nature at its best and be up close personal with the wild, what better way to do it than from a canoe.
Pakasangano generally works on a 3hrs to 3 day canoeing safari, but tailor made trips can be arranged to suit your interests. Our canoe safaris include a visit to one of our local villages to exchange traditions and meet the friendly population of the valley
Birding
Birdlife is abundant around Pakasangano Lodge with a variety of raptors, king fisher, water birds, and smaller birds commonly sighted. Trumpeter hornbill, Meyer’s Parrots, Lilian’s Lovebirds, Egyptian geese and Narina Trogon are but a few of the bird species which can be observed in the Zambezi Valley in abundance.
Bird watching is excellent from December to April, and good from May to November.
Sunset Cruises
These depart in the late afternoon, and are included in every night stay in our fully inclusive rates for our chalets.
For those not on a fully inclusive rate, it is a small extra charge, but well worth it, as there is the possibility of seeing elephants, crocodiles, hippo, as well as many different bird species found in the Zambezi Valley.
Drinks are served on board, often accompanied by spectacular African sunsets.
The best months to visit for good game viewing are from May to December, particularly October.
